Tips for Keeping a Clean Garage

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

Cleaning a garage can be a hassle, not to mention keeping it clean. You tick 'clean the garage' off the to-do list today and it's back to being a real mess the following month.

The good news is that you can take baby steps to clean and keep your garage organized and tidy all year long. Let's dive in, shall we?

A Clean, Well-Organized Garage Space

Get Rid of What You Don't Need

One of the first things to do to clean your garage and keep it clean is to remove unwanted items.

Look around your garage, and you'll likely notice items you haven't used in a long time. If you haven't used anything in a year, you probably won't. You can give them out to charity or recycle them, if possible.

Plan to Organize

After getting rid of things you don't need, it's time to organize those that are still useful. Items you use often should be kept within reach so you find them quickly when needed.

If you have seasonal items such as camping gear, you can store them in overhead storage if they are out of season. Plan to have a place for things that should be out of reach of your kids and pets, such as chemicals.

Use Boxes, Bins, Shelves, and Hooks to Organize

There should be a place for everything in your garage if you intend to stay organized. Depending on the size of your garage and the number of items, boxes, shelves, hooks, bins, or a combination is a great way to prevent clutter.

Finding a home for everything will maximize space and ensure your garage stays clean. Don't forget to label your bins, boxes, and shelves to make it easy to find items when needed.

Clean and Tidy Up Your Garage

Devote at least one or two hours every month to cleaning and tidying up your garage: dust table, walls, and ceilings.

Also, put items back in their proper places. You can also use this opportunity to bring out things you'll need in the coming season and replace them with those that'll go out of season.

For example, when bringing down the storage bin filled with artificial Christmas trees, lights, and other decorations in winter, store away things you used in summer.

Don't Forget Your Garage Floor

It feels satisfying driving or walking on a clean garage floor, but for most people, keeping the garage floor clean is an uphill task.

One of the easiest ways to keep your garage floor clean all year long is by applying epoxy floor coating.

For instance, our epoxy garage coating is resistant to gas, fluid, and other chemicals that could stain or damage your garage floor. Spills are easy to mop up, giving you a garage that always looks clean.
